MOULDED INTO EXISTENCE
ILLUSTRATION SERIES
For a project I had the opportunity to work on whatever I wanted for 8 weeks so I took the chance to explore something that has always fascinated me: Mythology and Folklore. What I love about these stories is how many variations there are and how there are many aspects to them such as culture, religion, norms all packed up in often beautiful visuals.
During this project I explored all types of Mythology and Folklore and ended up creating a series of 4 illustrations. For my series I wanted to focus on how ones identity is created through experiences and people around them. I ended up visualising all of this by creating creatures out of them. I used inspiration from other stories, my own experiences and the stories of others for this project.
THE PROCESS
I started off by doing visual research into some of my favorite genres of mythology and folklore. I wanted to get inspired by the art but to also take a look into the different types of stories that are told.
Throughout this project I created different sketches. Some of them I did based of people I know and others I did based off the different topics I wanted to include in this project. This helped to get my creativity flowing.
